Launch of the Book of Mylor
(25 October 2004)
Tremayne Hall was packed as we enjoyed the exciting culmination of all the hard work involved in putting together The Book of Mylor.
The publisher Halsgrove had arranged for two members of staff to bring down a van load of books and display material from their base in Tiverton. After speeches, wine and much chatting the books were distributed, firstly to those who had made prior orders. Then books were on sale in a mad scramble, while the Local History Group writers basked in the warm glow, signing copies and feeling like minor celebrities! We are not, of course, professional writers or academics but had merely gathered together a quantity of material kindly donated by local people. There are bound to be some mistakes but in general the book has been well received.
It had been a mammoth task but one that was well worth doing, particularly as it has led on to plans for the Archive Centre in the restored Tremayne Hall Community Centre. What is that saying about ‘little acorns’? It certainly applies in this case.
